Welcome and get excited to see the house and Museum of Sir John Soane, AKA amazing architect.
Soane was born in 1753, the son of a bricklayer, and died after a long and distinguished career, in 1837. Soane designed this house to live in, but also as a setting for his antiquities and his awesome works of art. After the death of his wife in 1815, he lived here alone, constantly adding to his collections and rearranging them. Having been deeply disappointed by the way his two sons were living, he determined to establish the house as a museum to which 'amateurs and students' should have access. The access for us students is so available that admission is free*.
Sir John Soane's Museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10-5PM. So if you come after 5, good luck trying to mosey on in, they run a tight shift. Just kidding, I'm not sure about all but, get excited for an excellent Museum!
